Peroxisomes are vital cellular organelles involved in numerous metabolic processes, including the breakdown of fatty acids through beta-oxidation. Given the nature of these metabolic reactions, peroxisomes inherently produce reactive oxygen species (ROS), such as hydrogen peroxide (Hâ‚‚Oâ‚‚).
