Channel: Microbial oxidative stress

Oxidative stress refers to the imbalance between the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and a biological system's ability to readily detoxify these reactive intermediates or repair the resulting damage. In microbial cells, as in all living organisms, ROS can cause damage to DNA, RNA, proteins, and lipids. Thus, managing oxidative stress is crucial for the survival and function of microbes.
